Classrooms must be designed with adaptable furniture and flexible layouts that accommodate hands-on learning and multiple learning styles, including areas for independent study, small-group collaboration, and large-group instruction.

Recognizing that no two students learn the same way, classrooms in 2025 and beyond must accommodate diverse learning styles, needs, and abilities.

Trauma-informed design principles are increasingly being incorporated into school spaces to support students' mental health, including designing calm and comfortable areas that reduce stress and anxiety while promoting focus and self-regulation. 

Additionally, student choice in seating and workspace arrangements allows learners to create environments that work best for them, whether that means working independently in a quiet corner or collaborating in an open, shared space. 

Biophilic design elements—such as access to natural light, indoor plants, and calming color schemes—contribute to student well-being by reducing stress and enhancing focus. 

Educator and staff wellness is also a priority, as teacher burnout continues to be a pressing issue in the education sector. More and more, schools are incorporating dedicated spaces for teachers to plan, collaborate, and recharge, recognizing that their well-being directly impacts student outcomes. 

The introduction of freestanding privacy pods or small-group collaboration spaces can act as “rooms within rooms” and provide quiet study areas, recharging spaces, or areas for private appointments, telehealth sessions, or counseling.
