Strengthening Community at KI
As part of our review of our annual social responsibility report, we recently shared some of the work we’ve done as faithful stewards of the environment.
We’re pleased to continue that discussion to highlight a different aspect of social responsibility: our work to promote happy, healthy communities—here at KI and beyond.
Investing in Our Employees
We support our employees’ efforts to make their health a priority, both inside and outside the workplace. Among our favorite ways to do so:
- We cover registration fees in local races for employees.
- We give employees a $200 annual stipend to help cover the cost of membership at a fitness center or the YMCA.
- Our café serves whole foods with low-calorie options.
- We host quarterly on-site wellness talks where expert guest speakers offer insights and inspiration for a healthy lifestyle.
A healthy workforce makes for a healthy company. We find that our team is more productive when each and every member is in good health.
A healthy workforce also saves the company and its employees money on health benefits. Our employees pay $1.58 million less annually in premiums than employees working for companies with similar health insurance plans.
Making a Positive Economic Impact
As the 18th-largest employer in the Green Bay, Wisc. metro area, KI has a significant impact on the local economy. We’re proud to provide our entry-level employees a wage 93 percent higher than the federal minimum. Last year, KI paid our 2,043 Wisconsin employees over $127 million in salary and fringe benefits. We also invest more than $7 million annually in capital projects.
After taking into account payments to employees, vendors and taxes, KI’s total economic impact on the state of Wisconsin in 2020 was over $305 million. We believe that our economic activity and investments in the community make Green Bay a better place to live for our employees—and everyone lucky enough to call Northeast Wisconsin home.
Creating a Kinder Community
At KI, we believe in the importance of corporate citizenship and giving back. In 2020, our charitable giving totaled more than $100,000.
Here are just a few of the organizations and causes we were honored to support last year:
Bellin Run 10K, one of the largest races of its kind in the country. This race supports Bellin College, a Green Bay-based renowned institute of higher learning for people pursuing careers in nursing and other healthcare professions.
American Cancer Society’s Making Strides for Breast Cancer, which unites our community of breast-cancer survivors and raises money for research.
United Way of Brown County and Manitowoc County, which assists numerous local charitable organizations that help those in need.
A Family of Employees
Our status as a 100 percent employee-owned company really sets us apart. Every employee has the opportunity to become an owner of KI. When KI succeeds, our employees share in that success.
We’re just as invested in our employees as they are in KI. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, training programs, continuing education opportunities and multiple paths for advancement. We strive to treat our employees like family—emphasizing work-life balance and offering support, both personally and professionally.
As a good corporate citizen, we understand that the work starts within our walls – first taking care of our own – and then caring for our local communities and the greater environment.
